Hello, my name is Nathan.
During my free time, I enjoy building things. Mainly robots. I say enjoy, but really, it’s a compulsion. I’ve built a handful of more miniature robots, like a small plush biped and some inverted pendulum bots. My latest project is a full-scale clone of Honda’s ASIMO. It’s not a true 1:1, but it’s close enough for my needs.
It’s hard to say what I like most about making robots or just projects in general. It’s an emotional rollercoaster. A task might start as analytical, then shift to boredom, and then to excitement as I get ready to install new parts, only to straight into anger and confusion, and eventually joy when it’s finally working.
Last time I was in Tokyo, I had a field day in Akihabara. There are many parts available at such great prices, not just for robotics but for any project. I’m also into retro tech, and in the UK, we don’t have junk stores like that, so it was wild seeing so many random electronics just there to pick through.
People sometimes ask if my projects have a reason. They don’t. I just built it because it’s what I know.
