Hemodynamic Analysis of a Microanastomosis Using Computational Fluid Dynamics
In microvascular anastomosis used in free flap transplant surgery, sutures exposed into the vascular lumen affect blood flow and can affect thrombosis after anastomosis.
In this study, computational fluid dynamics: CFD was used to analyze WSS and OSI for blood flow through microanastomosis to investigate the effect of sutures on blood flow. The results suggest that OSI is high at the base of the suture and may affect thrombus formation after anastomosis. Using CFD analysis may help with the best anastomosis method.
