Hi everyone! Saksham here. I feel like continuing the columns looking at fluid flow in everyday life. We have seen planes, trains and ships up until now. So this time we will look at my favorite topic, cars.
Fluid flow plays an important part in the design of cars especially in the current landscape of Electric vehicles. If the air (fluid) flowing over these vehicles are not designed to produce less drag (a force which slows the movement or disturbs the movement of air over a body), it would affect the range of the vehicle, an important parameter of these electric cars.
You can see the difference between two cars developed during the same time. Look at the shape of one to the other.
Can you guess which is electric?
They have distinct feature differences between their designs to reduce drag on the electric counterpart. This is one way where fluid flow dictates the design of cars.
