Hello, everyone; my name is Nia Mitchell.

I am from Philadelphia. I participated in long-distance running in high school and have been part of a K-pop dance covers group for about two years now. Generally, being active is very important in our daily lives. This is my first time working in an office, and as I am not accustomed to sitting for extended periods, I find it challenging. During my time in Tokyo, I have done a lot of walking, and in my free time throughout the day, a 30-minute small dance routine helps me destress and stretch after sitting all day.

I often attempt dance challenges from different social media platforms, mostly from K-pop, as they are fun and unique. My favorite dance challenge currently is “Killin’ It Girl” by J-Hope. The dance is enjoyable and not too challenging for beginners. It’s also incredibly easy to get started; numerous easy-to-follow tutorials are available on TikTok, YouTube, and other social media platforms. I also highly recommend artists that have songs with easy choreography, such as Twice, Blackpink, BTS, and Stray Kids, especially if it’s your first time starting.

Throughout my time here, I found that many people in my program dance both for fun and competitively in a variety of styles. I love that Tokyo offers a diverse number of Dance academies that anyone, no matter their dance experience, can join. One goal of mine while I am here is to take a dance class, as it is a great way to motivate me to stay active, and it will be interesting to learn and dance in a different country. I have never attended a professional dance academy before and look forward to the new experience.

Despite long work hours, I hope you are inspired to stay active, as both your physical and mental health will benefit.
